Now that the festive season is over, and usually some of the New Year resolutions are to shed those extra?s kilos and inches, our members have crept out from under their duvets. Of course the early sunny mornings and warm weather are also an inducement to get moving, especially after month upon month of rain over Saturdays and Sundays and a very soggy and cold Illovo Challenge in December. Next year we shall have another definite theme for this race.

Wonderful to see the familiar faces on a Saturday morning and we have also had a number of visitors as well. We welcomed Mavis Hutchinson who was down for a short visit from Sasolburg (82 and still going strong, anyone under that age take note!) John Garrett (retired), one of the founder members of Highway and staying in Hillcrest for a few weeks - and recently, members from Stella club. Glad that Stella took up our offer of joining us on a Saturday morning.

The athletic season is well on its way with the first race of the season being the Ronnie Davel in Hilton. A different route each year, depending on what part of the forest is being felled and this year more out in the open and little through the forest.

The Scottburgh race was resurrected this year after about a four-year absence and well supported by Highway members. Both races took place in extremely hot weather and took their toll on participants. Please remember to use sun block and drink plenty of fluids at this time of the year, otherwise you could land up with sunstroke, dehydration or peeling noses!

The club has purchased a new light weight gazebo and a cool box to stock with various drinks. These items will be taken to specific races that we, the committee have highlighted as crowd pullers in the hopes that we can encourage more Highway members to these races. The drinks system will work on an ?honesty? basis, and prices will be just to cover the cost these items.
