We are well into the New Year and it is pleasing to hear that many of you started off with New Year resolutions to spend more time on the road. Thanks to those who attend both club walks and the official races. Sadly certain members suffered injuries or have met with accidents recently and thus are unable to walk or run at present. We wish them all well and look forward to seeing them on the road again soon.

A number of new members have joined us and I would like to welcome them to Highway. I encourage all our new members to take the time to introduce themselves to Highway members and old members to look out for new members (although I suggest you do it before the race starts, as some of our new members are very good runners and may well be home and in the shower by the time you finish the race!)

Congratulations to all our members who won prizes and awards at our Awards Evening. Remember, we do not know what you have achieved unless you send in your quarterly results sheets ? and, without results we can?t give you an award or pay you incentives.

It was a proud moment at the Westville Illovo Christmas challenge when so many members braved the rain to come and join in the Highway spirit ? some pushing the ice cream trolley for 15kms. After the race many members stayed for prize giving and we shared snacks. The gazebo has proved to be a good investment.

During 2007 we hope to continue trying to get more members at more races. We have selected a race every month where we will have the gazebo and the drinks cool box and will try to get as many members to take part and stay for the prize giving afterwards.

Also to try and encourage more participation in races the interclub competition this year requires members to compete in two races over each of the distances of 10, 15 and 21.1km to qualify. Sheila and Matilda have some exciting proposals as far as the ladies time trials and social evenings go.
