The Awards Evening is approaching fast and is set for the 17th March 2017 at 6:30pm to be held at the Hillcrest Villagers Athletic Club.
Looking forward to rewarding all our award winners who worked hard during 2016 running and walking races and clocking up the kilometers.
Again to those of our runners who are doing the Comrades Marathon, hopefully your training is on target and you are doing enough millage to run a comfortable race if one can do that.
The first Ladies League Time Trial is Wednesday 8th March 2016 at the Forest Hills Athletics Club. Ladies please make an effort to come to these Time Trials so we can win back top spot again.
To those who have not yet renewed their licenses for 2017 please do so as we need to know our membership strength for this year. Also if you have not already done so please complete the ASA registration form that Margie has sent out and return it to Pam Stewart as soon as possible as she must send the information to KZN Athletics.
Regards Brian Stewart

License Requirements and Club Kit
Just some info regarding the KZNA/ASA licenses and our club kit, particularly for our newer members.
All members who take part in ASA races need to wear their 2017 licences on the front and back of their vests. If you do not have a 2017 license, then a temporary license needs to be purchased at the race, and worn on the front of the vest.
If taking part in a race where the club provides their own race numbers, eg. Hillcrest, this number should be placed over the 2017 license on the front of the vest, with the top section of the 2017 license still clearly visible. Refer picture below of Roshini, which shows the correct placement of the 2 numbers:
Failure to wear the correct licenses/race numbers could lead to disqualification, as some of our runners recently found out.
The official Highway club kit as registered with ASA is a turquoise and navy vest or string vest, which is teamed up with navy shorts, leggings or skorts. The vests are available from Pam Stewart, our kit and licensing lady, and the shorts and leggings are available at most sports shops or clothing stores.
In addition to the kit, walker and age category tags can be worn on the front and back of the vest, as modelled by Lil below. These are not compulsory but will ensure that you receive the prize money stipulated in the race entry form, should you win one of the age category or walker prizes.

The “NEW” Highway Challenge - Reminder
2017 sees a new format for the Highway Challenge, which now gives more athletes the chance to compete. So for this year and going forward, the challenge will work as follows:
Races included will be 10kms, 15/16kms, 21kms and the new 42kms.
You will need to complete 2 races in any 3 of the distances above.
2 x 10kms, 2 x 15kms, 2 x 21kms
2 x 15kms, 2 x 21kms, 2 x 42kms.
The inclusion of the 42kms will see a lot more of our running members being able to take part in the challenge, as these are the guys that concentrate on the longer distances, and were excluded in the past as they normally don’t do the shorter races.
Any questions regarding the new format, please give me a call.
