Well there is just over one more week to Comrades. I hope all our athletes have completed their training and are ready to go. Good luck to all 21 who have entered and have a great run.
The gazebo will be erected at Kloof again and there will be refreshments for you as you pass. When I ran my first Comrades Marathon a friend of mine gave me this advice. Drink before you are thirsty and don’t wait until you are dehydrated. This proved good advice as it is very important to keep hydrated.
There will be T Shirts for our Comrades runners and we will let you know when and where we will hand them out. Highway Athletic Club wishes to thank Julian McKenzie from Black Tyre Corporation for the sponsorship of the T Shirts.
Margie sent out a notification from Antoinette and Len Diedrieks that Mavis Hutchison underwent a valve replacement in her heart at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. Our goodwill wishes go with her and that she gets well soon. She is an Honorary Life member at Highway Athletic Club.
The Ladies Time Trial League is progressing well with the Highway Ladies walkers well in front of the other clubs. Ladies we need more runners as we have only Roshini Natasen flying the flag for Highway. So Ladies please try to attend the next one which will take place on the 6th July 2017 at Hillcrest Villages Athletic Club.
Regards Brian Stewart

Well done to Nhlanhla Ncayiyane who ran the Mnweni Marathon in the Drakensberg on 14 May in the worst weather imaginable! Looks like skis would have been a better option than running shoes! Your Comrades on 4 June is sure to be a breeze after this race……
Club Kit and Accessories
Good news for those of you who find it difficult to get to Westville to buy Highway kit and accessories – I will soon be holding a small stock of items for sale. These will be available on a Saturday morning either before or after our training walks. Strictly cash only please.

We have 6 social members – 3 males and 3 females.
And we have 3 honorary life members – Mavis Hutchison, Brian Schwulst and Franki Whiteford.
What a lovely bunch we are.
The following Highway guys and girls have entered the 2017 Comrades, which this year is held on 4 June:
Nhlanhla Mthokozisi Ncayiyane
Vincent Dumisani Nkabinde
Duncan Philani Malwane
Not all 25 runners above have managed to qualify, and some are unable to compete this year due to work pressures and injuries.
For those of you who will be running, remember the Highway gazebo will be in Old Main Road, Kloof, half-way down the road after the Kloof Town Hall building, on the right hand side. We will have some much-needed refreshments and motivation to dish out to those in need.
And for those not running but wanting to be part of the fun - there will be a skottel and a flat braai grid available, so bring along your eggs and bacon, or steak and rolls, and join us for a festive breakfast.
